The CritIQ Toronto's one-man Hip Hop Circus pitches his big top somewhere between Mack Da Maniak and Mac Lethal. Simultaneously sacrilegious and spiritual, nerdy-wordy and col' getting dumb, rap doesn't get more bi-polar than this.

about

SO! What happened is this. The Mighty Rhino, one of the best-beloved rappers and singers in the Canadian hip-hop underground, is fresh off the success of his 2019 album A Joy Which Nothing Can Erase, a jammin'-ass triumph featuring 13 superb joints (including collaborations with Fatlip of The Pharcyde, Roshin of Notes To Self, and old friends Adam Bomb, Prince Po, More Or Les, Ultra Magnus, and Fraction, who join a motley lineup of previous collaborators that also includes such luminaries as Witchdoctor, Big Mike, Rittz, Myka 9, and Chip Fu, among others), and had until recently, as of March 2020, been hard at work on the follow-up, To Relieve The Sorrow-Laden Heart, which was virtually guaranteed to be equally wonderful! But then the COVID-19 illness and the global coronavirus crisis obliged us all to practice social distancing and enter into quarantine!

What was an enterprising, righteous rapper, determined to bring his glorious bangers to the beloved people, to do? Why, release those few miraculous hits that were already set to go and make them available to the public as their own miniature EP, of course! And so the Royal Falcon EP was born! Five superb joints, opening with Rhino's usual shot of gorgeous, beautiful Bahá’í Scripture, and ending with what may be his best-ever lovesong, the heartrending "In Another Life". In between, we have a slumper called "Yeah!", a weed anthem for the ages called "Thank You God So Very Much For Creating Marijuana" (virtually certain to get the pothead in your life laughing uproariously), and a tender relationship song called "Tell Me What You Need".

The beats all come from the staggeringly gifted Myer Clarity, and the bangin' mixing and mastering job was handled by the marvelous Bradley "Nosh Dawg" Thorn, as was all the recording that led to this EP. It should go without saying that if you make rap music anywhere near Toronto, or really at all, you should pay these people good money to make beats for you and to mix and master your shit! They're the best in the game! And for that matter, anyone who makes music should commission the great Che Ruben to do their album artwork — he's responsible for The Royal Falcon EP's stellar, extraordinary cover art, at which Rhino himself admits he cannot stop gazing in astonishment! Please give all three of these men your money so they can marshal their talents to work magic in your life and upon your career!

As for Rhino himself, he could never possibly hold back how proud he is of these wonderful songs. He hopes you will all enjoy them, and that they will bring joy and gladness to your hearts! In these troubled times, full of uncertainty and excruciating suffering, all we can do is treat one another with the love, kindness, warmth, affection, magnanimity, and tenderness that we've always known one another to deserve, and contribute into one another's lives whatever goodness or joy we ever possibly can. We're all in this together!

This EP is consecrated to the memories of Vivah Goldberg Goodbaum, Shirley Trim, Mary Lappin, David Goldberg, Esther Dental Goodbaum, Julius Goodbaum, Herschel Wargon, Ruth Webster, Uzma Yunus, Daniel "Elements of Music" Carey, Alicia Louise Merchant, Andy Lambert, Josmarie Rivera, Kiflou Seyoum, Ishrat Naqvi, Ruth LaFlair, Earl Cameron, McCoy Tyner, Ennio Morricone, Manu Dibango, Mike Longo, Tony Allen, Stezo, and, perhaps especially this time, the eternally great and wonderful likes of Bill Withers, John Prine, Ian Holm, Max von Sydow, and MF DOOM. May God rain the crystal waters of His mercy and grace upon them all forever! And may He grant a speedy recovery from the COVID-19 illness to Brad "Scarface" Jordan, whose music means more to me than I have anything remotely like the capacity to express in words.

As ever, I am obliged to salute the glorious and gifted posse who comprise my extended music community, including More Or Les, Ultra Magnus, Donny Yonder, Roshin, Fraction, Skizza, Scopis, Adam Bomb, D-Sisive, Scarface (love you Uncle Brad!), John Darnielle (my main motherfucker right here!), Prince Po (much love for my OG!), A.G. credits

released March 22, 2020

All lyrics written and performed by Noah "The Mighty Rhino" Goodbaum, except "The Station of Love", which consists of Rhino reciting a quotation from the Bahá’í Writings, specifically a portion of the commentary on the Shí'ah text "I Was A Hidden Treasure" by ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Who is the "Master" and "Perfect Exemplar" of the Bahá’í Faith and is the son of Bahá’u’lláh, the Prophet and Founder of the Bahá’í Faith.

All songs except "The Station of Love", which is not really a song, produced by Myer Tamino Clarity at No Damn Good Studios. All songs recorded, mixed, and mastered by Bradley "Notion" Thorn at Illnote Studios. Shoutout to Nosh Dawg and Clarity for bein' trill brothers an' helpin' yer main man put 'is music together so he can hit yer fuckin' earholes with this bangerational greatness.

Cover artwork by the astonishingly gifted and thoroughly wonderful Che Ruben Hernandez, who has in common with Nosh Dawg and with Clarity, as well as with every single person Rhino listed in his admittedly incredibly lengthy liner notes, that he deserves every joy and blessing of this world and every joy and blessing of the world to come.
